How to choose your kitchen plates ?
Choosing the right kitchen plates is essential to combine functionality, aesthetics and dining pleasure. Here are some tips to help you make the best choice:
Material
The material of the plate plays a crucial role in its durability and functionality:
• Porcelain: durable and elegant, porcelain is ideal for everyday use and special occasions. It is generally thinner and has a glossy finish.
• Earthenware: thicker than porcelain, earthenware is often used for colorful designs and decorative patterns. It is durable and ideal for everyday use.
• Ceramic: ceramic plates offer good heat resistance and are often decorated with unique handcrafted patterns.
Design and aesthetics
The design of the plate can influence the mood of your meals. Opt for shapes and patterns that complement your table style:
• Classic: white or subtly patterned plates are timeless and suitable for all occasions.
• Modern: For a contemporary look, choose plates with bold designs and bright colours.
Size and shape
The size and shape of plates vary according to needs:
• Dinner plates: generally 25 to 30 cm, they are ideal for main courses.
• Dessert plates: smaller, they are perfect for desserts and starters.
• Bread plates: around 14 cm in diameter, to delicately place slices and balls of bread.
• Soup or gourmet plates: for tasting soups, starters or dishes with a vertical aesthetic
• Presentation plates: to highlight the recipe and the food worked on, like a work of art.
Maintenance
Consider ease of maintenance:
• Dishwasher: check that the plates are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
• Microwave: Make sure the plates are microwave safe if you plan to use them to reheat food.
